Mark Goverman, Achziv winery, produces both wine and culture. In the small two-rooms-space at the artist workshops at Kibbutz Gesher HaZiv, Mark holds impressive paintings and qualitative wine bottles, all of them are self made.

Mark adopted a new life philosophy after 27 years as communications and electronics manager at Bezeq. Not to work hard and enjoy everything he does. The painting part was easy for he always painted. For wine making, on the other hand, he needed more courage which he got from his friends at Natuf winery and from Uri Hetz, an expert wine-maker, who also serves as professional adviser of Achziv winery.

After decision was made, to build a winery, things started to work out of themselves. The right species of grapes to produce the three types the winery experts in were found, the winery name is after the local area and even the logo just "fell from the sky". The story is this: Mark took part in archaeological excavations at an ancient Phoenician settlement nearby his Kibbutz. Inside one of the vases he found a mark. When he looked at it he knew immediately this will be his winery's logo. If you like, Mark will be happy to tell you about the Phoenician people and their connection to the Jewish people, to science and to culture.

If you are short in time, just stop by to taste some good wine and to buy a bottle or more from the annual produce that stands of only 2000 bottles (!). Mark assured that even though the critics are great, he don't want to grow big and produce more wine or deal with mass marketing. Everything is going well, and as mentioned - hard work is not his cup of tea.

If you have more than few minutes, arrange a meeting with Mark in advance. You will enjoy a unique environment and hear great explanations about wine making, wine tasting and its surrounding culture, and maybe you'll get a look at the exhibition the next room.
