Welcome to the wonderful world of Delart, a center for crafting ornamental pumpkins in Moshav Batsat. Here it is possible and desirable to let your imagination run wild, get to know a new world, and fall in love with creations made from natural materials.
When you think of a pumpkin, what comes to mind?
Creamy soup? – Yes. Cinderella in the pumpkin carriage? – Yes. Beautiful Jack-o’-lantern of Halloween? – Sure!
What about applied art?
In Moshav Betzet, you will find an amazing studio called Delart, where with a bit of magic, pumpkins are turned into works of art, musical instruments, masks and many other fun possibilities!
It turns out that the pumpkin has had many uses since the days of the Chinese sages, who attributed to it the properties of expelling spirits and negative energies.
Over the years, Pumpkins have become impressive musical instruments and useful tools for carrying water. The quality of the pumpkin and its resistance to rot, made it ideal for many and varied uses, one might say it was the plastic of the ancient days.
Yair from Delart, tells he was actually a graphic artist.
Yet, it’s true, the pumpkins were piled up in the yard at his parents’ house, after his mother planted them almost by accident.
At first he only played with them and did some art work. nothing serious. After working for years as a graphic artist for the hospital in Nahariya,
like the pumpkins, compliments about the art works began to pile up for him, which he brought to the office and even got special orders, and so in 1997, Yair became the pumpkin man of the North.
Yair holds workshops together with his dear mom in Moshav Betzet. In the fun workshops, both the young and the old prepare works of applied art, by cutting and painting different types of pumpkins.
At the end of the workshop you get to take your new creations home along with a big smile.
An ornamental pumpkin is a wonderful raw material for creation, useful, durable, natural, lightweight, and there is no end to the creations that can be created from it.
