Amudei Amram – For Dogs That Love to Pose for Photos

If you’re looking for the perfect selfie with your canine friend, Amudei Amram (Amram’s Pillars) is your next must-visit destination! This is a short and accessible trail that’s perfect to include on your way to Eilat or as a day trip from Lotan. The trail offers a perfect desert experience – an easy walk in a wild landscape, amazing colors of rocks and sandstone in various shades of red, yellow and brown, and fascinating geological formations around every corner. The highlight of the trail is, of course, Amram’s impressive sandstone pillars – natural columns that rise to a height of about 15 meters! The contrast between the reddish sand colors and the blue skies creates a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable picture with your dog. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water (for your dog too!) and arrive in the early morning or late afternoon hours to avoid the daytime heat. A picture of Rexy next to the impressive pillars is simply a must!

Kasui Sands – For Dogs That Love to Roll in Sand

A sand paradise for your beloved dog! Kasui Sands is one of the most enjoyable places in the Arava for dogs who love to frolic in sand. These are spectacular dunes of golden, extraordinarily fine and soft sand that simply invite play and enjoyment. Here you can experience pure joy as you watch your four-legged friend run up the dune, leap excitedly, roll down the soft sand, and leave small paw prints in the desert landscape. It’s a liberating experience for you too – you can climb to the top of the dune (a small effort that’s worth it!), catch your breath slightly from the ascent, and then roll or slide down with shouts (and barks) of joy that will take you back to childhood days. Especially important: arrive at the sands in the early morning hours or towards sunset, when temperatures are more pleasant and the sand isn’t too hot for the sensitive paws of your canine friend. Don’t forget to bring plenty of drinking water – for both you and your dog, and prepare your camera for particularly funny moments of your sand-covered and happy-to-the-tail dog!

Upper Gishron Stream – For Dogs That Love to Observe

Walk together with your dog to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in southern Israel! Upper Gishron Stream offers a perfect circular route just three kilometers long – an ideal distance for a pleasant family hike with your dog. The trail leads you through a magical stream channel surrounded by reddish sandstone rocks in magnificent shades, combining comfortable walking in a unique desert landscape. As the trail continues, a surprise awaits you – a short but rewarding climb that will lead you to a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the magnificent Sinai Peninsula! This is a perfect moment to stop, breathe deeply, and enjoy the panoramic view together with your four-legged friend. Dogs usually enjoy standing at high points and open viewpoints very much, and here they can pick up new scents and sounds of the desert. Remember to keep your dog on a leash near cliffs and viewpoints, and to bring plenty of water. This is an especially enjoyable hike in the afternoon hours, when the colors of the desert and sky change and create a particularly magical landscape.

Ashosh Stream Nature Reserve – For Dogs That Love to Walk

A desert adventure for hikers and energetic dogs! Ashosh Stream Nature Reserve is a true gem in the Central Arava, offering a powerful nature experience for walking enthusiasts. Here you’ll find an impressive circular trail that combines everything – magnificent stream channels, dramatic cliffs, unique rock formations, and breathtaking panoramic views of the endless expanses of the Arava. The trail is ideal for energetic dogs who enjoy longer walks and exploring new territory. The open spaces allow your dog to experience wild nature, discover new scents, and be impressed by landscapes different from what they’re familiar with in the city. The reserve offers well-marked trails, yet still gives a sense of real adventure and disconnection from civilization. Make sure to bring a large amount of water (especially for your dog!), hats, and snacks to boost energy during the walk. Arrive early in the morning to avoid the heat of midday hours, and plan to spend at least half a day in the reserve to enjoy it fully. An authentic experience of desert nature at its best – for you and your dog!

Important to Remember When Hiking With Your Dog

  1. Bring enough water for your dog, a bowl, and treats.
  2. Try to avoid extensive walking in the sun; try to take breaks from time to time.
  3. Keep your dog away from dangerous high points and places where snakes might be present.
